Adaptation - Narratives

Climate change impacts are felt worldwide.  In an effort to increase awareness of the local impacts on localities and their adaptation efforts, students in St. Lawrence University’s class entitled Adapting to Climate Change have begun adding case studies to the AKSIK website in 2017.  The impacts and adaptation coverage on this website includes humans and non-humans.

The case studies follow a standard format followed by climate change professionals to catalogue the varying degrees of risks found in a locality.  That format can be summarized by the following function:

R = f(HEV) – (A+R)             

Where                        

• R = risk                                              
• V = vulnerability
• H = hazards (CC impacts)                  
• A = adaptation efforts
• E = exposure                                      
• R = resilience
